The EDGE Performance Conditioning programs for professional and aspiring athletes are designed to provide peak physical stimulus that pushes the absolute limitations of elite athletic performance. Due to the customised and maximal intensity nature, recovery and regeneration methods are implemented. Our programs place the highest emphasis on applied and measurable performance. Fine-tuning movement and function each programme is tailored to the individual needs of each athlete and their chosen sport.
Under the constant supervision of our Strength and Conditioning coaches each intense 90 minute workout will cover:
• Flexibility – Foam rolling and various forms of stretching • Joint Mobility – Various dynamic flexibility and mobility drills • Injury Reduction – Identify muscular imbalance, Core stability training, muscle activation • Speed – Acceleration, deceleration, linear and lateral running and foot work drills • Explosive Power – Olympic lifting, jumping, bounding and slamming. • Strength – Focusing on the entire body, correct technique and core strength • Conditioning – Increased Vo2max levels using proven interval methods • Nutrition – Using scientific methods to shed excess body fat and increase lean muscle.
The shocking truth is that in todays unhealthy and overweight society, 25% of boys and 33% of girls aged between 2-19 are overweight or obese and these figures are rising fast! Children that are overweight and obese are at an increased risk of developing further complications such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, certain cancers, psychological disorders, not to mention the social stigma of being overweight.
The main reasons for this obesity is due to the lack of physical activity performed and poor nutritional choices made (sometimes they don’t even know the foods they eat are unhealthy). With the conflicting advice being given out and the clever marketing of certain unhealthy products as being good for you, it can be very hard for children and parents to know what foods to choose. In addition, the only real avenues for children to lose weight is by joining a sports team or maybe going into the park to exercise, which many children do not want to do, especially if overweight.
To address this problem, EDGE offers fitness classes several times a week, specifically designed to reduce body fat, increase fitness and muscle whilst at the same time making each session fun and rewarding increasing your child’s confidence. These sessions will be performed in our designated group training area. Nutrition seminars will also be given out at the beginning of each course to both children and their parents in order to educate them into making better food choices for the whole family.
EDGE also offers conditioning courses to aspiring young athletes in order to give them that physical edge over their peers. Children will increase lean muscle mass and decrease body fat which will aid them to excel in their sport by running faster, jumping higher or throwing further.
Junior Fitness and/or Conditioning sessions can be run on a one-to-one basis or as a group and follow the principals of our Adult sessions. (Max 6 people for each course)
